Yankees Game 69 Lineup: 06/22/12

Andy Pettitte is really warming up and he gets the start in tonight’s series opener with the Mets at Citi Field.

The Yankees had an off day yesterday and return to baseball today with a trip across the city for another for another weekend Subway Series against the Mets. The Yankees enter the series coming off of a two-game losing streak, their first since the end of May. They swept the Mets last time when they came to the Bronx and will look to do the same in order to maintain the city crown in 2012.

Andy Pettitte is set to start in the series opener tonight and has provided a pretty big boost to the starting rotation since rejoining the team this season. Although his last two starts resulted in a no-decision for him, he’s been pitching well and improving as the time goes on. Pettitte’s ERA has steadily declined with each start, he’s only given up four runs in three starts in June. Continuing to go deep into games and keeping the runs and hits to a minimum, like he has, is all the Yankees can ask for. Pettitte has a pretty successful past against the Mets and will look to add another win to his 7-4 record against them lifetime.

It’s a southpaw duel on the mound tonight, as lefty Jon Niese will start for the Mets. Niese is having a pretty nice month as well, with a 1-1 record and 1.80 ERA. The Bomber bats have been pretty loud lately, blasting 29 homers in June. They’ll need to keep bringing the noise tonight to put a quick end to their little losing streak.

About Joseph Kringer Jr

Since I was old enough to put on a glove, I've had a strong passion for Yankee baseball. The game itself and Yankee pride is somewhat of a family tradition, a common bond shared by many generations. My love for the team has led me to find a new passion in writing. As an aspiring sports journalist, I look to provide the best New York Yankee baseball coverage for the fans out there who's lives revolve around this storied franchise as much as mine does.
