Montero to be Called up to Yankees Soon?

According to the Trenton Times, Yankees prospect Jesus Montero could be promoted “in the very near future.”

Montero has posted a somewhat disappointing .283/.342/.429 batting line in 84 games this season at the Triple-A level, but the Yankees love his power potential and apparently feel that he’s nearly ready to contribute to the major league lineup. The 21-year-old would likely split time between DH and catcher. He slugged 21 homers in the minors last year and has 10 big flies this season.

Let's Get #28 in 2012. go Yankees!

  • Joe Monte

Not gonna happen. Russell Martin is their full-time catcher this year and they don't have room for another DH. You'll see him September 1 when they can expand the roster.

  • Henry

Sorry Joe but he will be up soon. Martin is an awful hitter and the yankees can't carry him. He looks very tired and they are stealing a lot of bases on him. He will remain the starter but with Montero he should get more time off and I for one think he will be better with the rest.

  • Henry

You just can't ignor that bat. He is not challenged enough at AAA and it has affected him. He will be good hitting down in the batting order.

  • Del Pittman

Now receiving plenty of print speculation of an early call up. If this move and related moves help the Yankees reach their goal of winning a championship this season, I'll borrow a line from Star Trek's Captain Picard and say, "Make it so."
