New York Yankees 3 — Baltimore Orioles 6
First inning home runs by Adam Jones and Matt Wieters made for a bad start for Ivan Nova in tonight’s 6-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Adam Jones hit a three-run home run and two batters later Matt Wieters hit another home run to give the Orioles an early 4-0 lead. Despite the poor first inning, Nova managed to go 4 innings and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits. Through the remaining 4 innings, a combination of 4 pitchers allowed just 1 run on 3 hits. But the first inning was a large hole to get out of and the Yankees could not muster enough offense.
The Yankees, literally, took a blow to the offense as Robinson Cano was hit in the left hand by an inside pitch in the 6th inning. It doesn’t sound like it will cause him to miss too many games, to the relief of Yankees fans. Dewayne Wise was the star of the offense in tonight’s game as he went 2 for 2 with 1 run driven in.
